How many companies are hiring remote workers?

On November 8, 2026, 507 of the 806 companies Hiring Tempo tracks had at least one remote job open, and together they listed 10,012 remote jobs. That's 12.8% of the 78,189 open jobs on their career pages, or about 1 in every 8.

Remote jobs are spread unevenly, though. A few dozen companies list most of their jobs as remote, and they make up a big part of the total. Most companies list a handful or none at all. Of the 80 companies with 50 or more open jobs and no remote ones, many make chips, rockets or cars, like Applied Materials, Intel and Rocket Lab, where the work can't leave the building. A few are software companies whose career pages may not mark jobs remote in a way our count can read, so a zero is a reason to check the job page, not proof that a company never hires remote.

Our count covers jobs the company itself marked remote on its careers page, checked every day. It leaves out hybrid jobs, where you go into an office a few days a week, so the number of jobs with some time at home is higher than this.

The share of remote job postings is lower than the share of people who work from home. In October 2026, 22.1% of people at work teleworked for at least some of their hours, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Table A-41, and 10.6% teleworked all of their hours. So about 1 in 10 workers is fully remote, and about 1 in 8 of the open jobs we track is remote. The two numbers are close, but they measure different things. BLS counts people who already have jobs across the whole country, while we count job postings at mostly tech companies.

Which companies have the most remote jobs?

Veeva Systems has the most by far, with 721 remote jobs out of 876. Samsara, ServiceNow, GitLab and Affirm come next, each with more than 200.

Big companies show up on this list because they're big. GE Vernova has 139 remote jobs, but that's only 6% of its 2,166 openings, so most of its jobs are still in plants and offices. If you want a company where remote is the normal way to work, the share column matters more than the count.

Veeva calls its policy Work Anywhere. Its careers site says employees can work at home or in an office on any day, but they keep set core hours. Product teams live within a time zone of their regional hub, and people who work with customers live near them or travel to them. GitLab's company page says it tries to be an all-remote company and lists more than 2,500 team members as of June 2026.

Which companies are fully remote?

Some companies list every one of their open jobs as remote. Among companies with at least 25 openings, Grafana Labs (134), Mozilla (113), Chainguard (101), Ashby (73), Supabase (70), Render (35), Dropbox (31), Rula (30) and Socket (26) had no on-site jobs at all on November 8. Twilio (127 of 128), Kraken (88 of 89) and Instacart (88 of 90) were close behind.

A fully remote list doesn't always mean you can live anywhere. Many remote jobs are remote within one country. Of the 10,012 remote jobs, 6,417 are open to people in the United States, 945 in Canada and 650 in the United Kingdom, and some ask you to live in a certain state or time zone. Read the location line on each job before you apply.

Which jobs are most often remote?

Product, marketing, sales and data jobs are about twice as likely to be remote as engineering jobs. Close to 1 in 4 product jobs is remote, compared with fewer than 1 in 10 engineering jobs.

Engineering has the lowest share partly because of what counts as engineering here. Hardware, electrical and manufacturing engineers at companies like GE Vernova, Anduril and SpaceX need to be near the machines, and they pull the share down. Engineering still has more remote jobs than any other team, with 2,366, because it's by far the biggest team. So if you're searching for remote software engineer jobs, there are more of them than remote product or marketing jobs, even though the share is lower.

Are remote jobs growing?

No, not faster than other jobs. We've tracked 225 of these companies every day since September 12, 2026. At those same companies, remote jobs went from 4,168 to 4,338 between September 12 and November 8, a rise of 4%. All of their open jobs grew 8% over the same weeks, so the remote share slipped from 23.1% to 22.3%. A larger group of 446 companies tracked since October 8 shows the same flat picture, with remote jobs up 1% and all jobs down 2%.

A few companies did add a lot. Samsara went from 194 remote jobs to 270 and Affirm from 139 to 214, and both companies' total openings grew steadily over those weeks too, so it looks like real hiring. Other lists got shorter, but a shorter list can mean jobs were filled or that a careers site changed how it labels jobs, so we don't read that as cuts.

Remote postings are also a little older on average. 9.1% of remote jobs were first posted in the last 30 days, compared with 9.9% of all jobs. One reason may be that remote jobs draw more applicants and take longer to close, but our data can't show that.

Our numbers count job postings, not hires. One posting can be several openings, a company can list 20 jobs and fill five, and the companies we follow lean toward tech. That's why the board has few of the remote customer service, data entry and tutoring jobs that many people search for.

Do remote jobs pay less?

A little, and it depends on the team. The typical US remote job that posts a yearly range offers about $197,500 at the middle of the range, compared with $206,000 for on-site and hybrid jobs at the same companies.

TableTypical posted pay, US jobs with yearly ranges, November 8, 2026
Team Remote: typical midpoint On-site or hybrid: typical midpoint
Engineering $225,000 (323 jobs) $229,900 (2,462 jobs)
Product $225,300 (78 jobs) $230,000 (204 jobs)
Sales and go-to-market $200,000 (301 jobs) $197,500 (790 jobs)
Marketing $185,000 (101 jobs) $190,500 (384 jobs)
Operations $150,000 (65 jobs) $175,000 (533 jobs)
Customer success $133,800 (98 jobs) $168,800 (224 jobs)

For engineering, product, sales and marketing, the gap is small, often under $5,000. It's much bigger for operations and customer success, where remote customer success jobs pay about $35,000 less at the middle of the range. The kind of job may explain part of it, because remote customer success jobs include more support roles, but our counts can't separate them cleanly. Only 1,432 remote US jobs list a yearly range, so these numbers come from a smaller group than the job counts above.

Where to look first

If you want the best odds, look at companies where most jobs are remote and that are still adding jobs. On November 8, that included Samsara, Affirm, GitLab and Coinbase, which each had more than 200 remote openings and more open jobs overall than they had in September. Our November hiring roundup shows which companies are adding the most jobs overall, and the forward deployed engineer article shows how rare remote work is in one of the fastest-growing tech jobs, at 12%.

Mozilla, Chainguard and Grafana Labs had more than 100 open jobs each on November 8, and every one of them was remote.
